Dr. Patrick Nunan brings 30 years of practice experience to Antioch Foot & Ankle Group. He has a passion for athletics and currently competes in Master’s swimming, open water swimming, triathlons and running events. Dr. Nunan was the Podiatry Consultant to all of the sports teams at Wilmington (Ohio) College for 15 years. He has lectured students, athletic trainers, physicians, and podiatrists nationally and internationally. Dr. Nunan is also published in several scientific journals. He is proud of his chapter in the book “Athletic Footwear and Orthoses in Sports Medicine” edited by Matthew B. Werd and E. Leslie Knight. He is uniquely qualified to treat foot and ankle injuries involving athletes.
Dr. Nunan is an innovative, caring professional with a passion for making things better for the people that he serves. He started a program called “Fit Feet”, and serves as the programs’ Global Clinical Advisor. Fit Feet is one of 7 disciplines in the Healthy Athletes program of the Special Olympics. With more than 1.4 million free health examinations in more than 120 countries, the Special Olympics Healthy Athletes program offers health services and information to athletes in dire need. Special Olympics have become the largest global public health organization dedicated to serving people with intellectual disabilities. Dr. Nunan has travelled and examined athletes in China, Japan, South Korea, India, El Salvador, Canada, the Netherlands, Denmark, Italy, Ireland, and numerous states in the US. He is proficient in surgery of the forefoot, rear foot and ankle, sports medicine, disability medicine, wound care, muscular skeletal and children’s deformities. His experience and professional training qualify him to treat patients with complex orthopedic deformities of the lower extremities, both children and adults. His years of service with the Special Olympics demonstrates his passion for working with the intellectually disabled, which are one of the most underserved populations in medicine. Dr. Nunan’s expertise is this area will be beneficial to this identifiable segment of the population and their families. Antioch is sensitive to their needs, as well, and welcomes the expertise that Dr. Nunan will bring to our practice.
Dr. Nunan received his undergraduate degree from West Virginia University and his medical degree from the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine. He completed his residency at the Foot Clinic of Youngstown (Ohio) and affiliated hospitals. He is a member of the majority of Podiatric professional associations and a Fellow of several. Dr. Nunan is the past President of the Ohio Podiatric Medical Association, and the American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine. He has the distinction of serving as the former Chief of Podiatry at the Jewish Hospital in Cincinnati Ohio. He and his wife Maggie are animal lovers. Their dogs and cats are a part of their family.
